I could not put this book down. The author is funny, self-deprecating and adventurous. Even though I cheated and looked her up on the internet because I had to know what happened so I basically knew how it ended, it was still a page turner - mostly because of the fun way Samantha writes. I would love to meet her some time and have a glass of champagne together and toast our adventurous selves that led us to love and life in Europe! Seven Letters from Paris, is an uplifting personal memoir from author Samantha Verant, about finding true love again at age 40. Living in California, Samantha Verant finds herself in an unhappy marriage, swimming in debt and jobless. Feeling at rock bottom, she happens to come across seven letters which were written to her from a young man she met one day in Paris twenty years ago. After returning from her trip in Europe, Samantha a student, resumed her university studies and hence the letters from Jean Luc remained unanswered. Samantha decides to seize the day and reconnect with Jean Luc, via a blog. The two bounce emails, phone calls and eventually Samantha decides to take the plunge and make the trip over to Paris to be with Jean Luc. The memoir, while focusing on the next chapter of the relationship between Samantha and Jean Luc in France, also looks at cultural and language differences, travel, food, friendship with underlying tones of humour. Upon reading, what really stood out for me was the raw honesty expressed by Samantha, the author and narrator. I found it easy to connect to her writing style and came away from reading this book feeling inspired by Samantha and Jean Luc’s love story. Their story is a refreshing modern fairytale, I loved the use of the seven letters interspersed within the progression of the memoir. Touching, inspiring and utterly romantic, this is a memoir that is hard to resist.
