Bertozzi lays out the 1914-17 journey of Ernest Shackleton and his men in a simplified but still comprehensive story. The art is somewhat minimal which works really well with the setting of Antarctica. You get a real feel for the expansive white and the terror of the ice floes. And putting real text from the journals into the graphic novel format was genius - it makes the text much more accessible and even humorous at times. I will definitely recommend this to teens, especially when they need non-fiction works for school! This book was about shackleton and his crew who go out to the antarctic ocean and their boat gets stuck. The genre is non-fiction of course. Once they are out on the ocean for a while they all start to lose hope. Shackleton of course does not believe they should lose all hope yet.I personally did not like the book that much. The story was just dragged on and on and on. The story made me keep on guessing to what was going to happen. I did not laugh or cry or smile at all during this book. The ending was very predictable. But it was non-fiction so they cant make it up. I recomend this book to people who love a good mysetery type story i guess. I did not like it as much as other things that I have read before. I dont think i can compare this to any other book I've ever read before. It wasn't that bad as i said.
Some really cool parts, for a graphic novel, but not as good as the Endurance by Alfred Lansing.

Interesting story, a bit hard to follow the flow of the story .. especially for the kids.

graphic nonfiction. This is very very condensed, but readable.
