Shadow Kin (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

There were some things I really loved about this book, and some things that were kind of meh.The world is really fascinating. Pretty much every paranormal race dumped in the time of the Templar knights. There are magic aspects I've never read about, and actually had a decent amount of politics that I didn't mind. This was one of the few times that I actually wanted more background information about the world and how things came to be. It was really different than any of the other UF I've read before, and I really liked it.I loved Lily. Also different than any other UF heroine I've read before. While she could be somewhat bitchy, there was really no sarcasm, snarkiness, or a hardened jaded attitude. She was surprisingly selfless and pragmatic. There was no choice in anything for her until Simon came and upset her world.Simon. Really the only thing I didn't absolutely love. Once again, not really like an UF hero I've read. I'm used to uber alpha heroes, and that is not Simon. He looks at the world with rosy glasses and is an eternal optimist. He is more than capable, and is still slightly over protective of Lily, but he is not the take charge type, and I was missing that a little because no one really was. Everyone made plans, but there wasn't a clear leader, and I didn't like that.Overall, I was fascinated and can't wait to read the next one! ok, so you are one of a kind and you alone make your CAPTOR a lot more powerful and to top it all off you are a assassin and a very good one at that yet you are a SLAVE and take crap from everyone? and the whole thing with Simon, she tried to kill you and you want to rescue her from her "owner" he obviously had too much time on his hands. a couple year ago i would had given this 3 to 5 stars but not today.
