I had gotten this novel for free during a sale. I tend to put free books on the back burner, assuming I'll get what I paid for. I should have gotten to this one sooner. It was a surprisingly good read. The protagonists are both remnants of a serial killer: the author who wrote a best-seller about him, and his son who has been living a life trying to escape his shadow. A string of copycat murders years later brings them together. It wasn't the most engrossing page-turner of a thriller I ever read, but it most certainly kept my interest. The characters Russell creates are well-defined, the situations are thought-out (with minor, believable exceptions in poor judgement). What can I possibly say about Shame? This book blew me away! First off, I love true crime books. So the fact that this was written involving a true-crime writer, a serial killer, and murders... well, you can say I was hooked from the start. The book is written so well, everything just flows together so naturally. There are flashbacks that aren't disjointed the way they are in other books. The suspense is intense as is the guessing you will be doing as to who-dun-it!! I have never read anything by Alan Russell before reading SHAME, but I have added his books to my wishlist to be downloaded and read in the future. If you like a good book with elements of mystery, suspense, murder, horror, and intrigue- get SHAME today. Come on....stop reading reviews and get the book!!!
