What do You think about Silent Star (2003)?
A story of loss, hurt, sorrow...and redemption. Andy, a telegraph messenger, is shunned by the community and encased in a cold, bitter, lonely tomb of sorrow. In a time of war, Andy feels that the messages he bears are of his own doing--the deaths are his fault--and it seems the people of the community are of a like mind. No one wants the Grim Reaper to come around, and Andy embodies that because of his job. Orphaned and bitter toward God, Andy has given up on life--until one day an elderly, God

The story of Andy, who delivers telegrams about MIA's and KIA's during WWII. The town where he lives has shunned him, because he delivers the bad news to them. Then he meets an elderly woman at the cemetery when he is visiting his parents graves. Estella is visiting the grave of her husband and sees Andy and talks to him. Andy can't believe that anyone wants to be a friend to him. They do become friends and she tells him of God's love. They need each other because they are both lonely and he is the son she never had, and she is like his mother that recently passed on. A very heartwrenching and at the same time heartwarming story. The characters are very real and you want them to be someone you know and love. This is the first book by Tracie Peterson I've read, but it certainly won't be the last. Excellent story.
