This was the first book I've read of this series, and of course it's the last book (#9). I'd like to go back and read one of the others in the series so I'll have to be on the look-out for this series. There were some elements that I didn't necessarily prefer, but I kept reading. The only drawback I can think of, in my opinion, is that there wasn't enough feeling between the two main characters or it wasn't put across. There's was a lot of sex, but not a lot of sexual tension. Sexual tension can really make a book and this one was very lacking. I've really enjoyed other Kate Pearce books/short stories though and I'll continue to read her stories. Ambrose is African American and he feels he's so far beneath Emily that he has no right to even consider being with her. I enjoyed their romance at least as much as the one between Richard and Violet, maybe more. Ambrose has been one of my favorite characters throughout the series.There are several story lines happening in this book, so it really is helpful to have read previous books in the series. This is the last and final book in the series, and I'm really sad to see it end. This is definitely one of my top favorite series of all time. Kate Pearce has created a world that has many twists and turns, passion, intrigue, and characters that I will never forget. This is a must read for historical erotic romance fans.
