ever been to a wedding as a single? yeah, it sucks. all those happy couples celebrating THE HAPPY COUPLE while you sit at a table full of people you don't know, don't want to know, know but don't want to admit knowing...drinking as fast as you can while the bar is still "open" listening to some lame d.j. calling out for all the SINGLE LADIES to get out there for the bouquet toss. i've done it plenty of times and this book was dead on about the whole ordeal. it's written by meredith goldstein of the boston globe. she writes a relationship column which, i'm sure, along with her own ordeals as a single served as fodder for the story. stuff like, the girl who's still in love with her ex who shows up with his new girlfriend (the gall!) the singles looking to "hook-up" the trials & Tribulations of the bridesmaids...it was a good, fun story that i read with a smirk on my face and many knowing nods. Too many long narrative passages spent on establishing characters' backgrounds and not enough snappy dialogue to qualify as good chick-lit for me. As the two stars indicate, it was OK. Also, and it may just be that I'm getting old and cranky, but a scene explaining a blow job with a head cold is just not that funny. It sounds funny now that I've written that phrase, but while reading the book it just made me groan.
