This is the first book in Lyn Benedict's Shadows Inquiries series. It's a good book but it really felt like it was so really the second book. There was lots of referring back to things that the reader couldn't know about because there was no other book. Really weird. That said, this is a pretty good book. I listened to the audio version from the library and it was well done. The narrator did a very nice job. The heroine in this story is a little hard to get a handle on because we don't really know what made her what she is because of that feel for a previous book. I'll read the next one though to see if I can get a better feel for Shadow. The beginning is slow. And honestly, I'm confused. This is the first book in the series. I always try to start with the first book. However, it reads like it is in the middle of the series. Things I think I should know, I don't... and they are not explained. I feel like I'm missing a huge chunk of information. The rest of it, was slow. I didn't find it very interesting, and it was confusing with all the characters coming in and out, the lack of any history/back story (the story still reads as if it is in the middle of a series rather than at the beginning).
What do You think about Sins & Shadows (2009)?
A bit dry, no romance and a bitching heroine, who fails to protect innocents.

Slow start but pulls together for a great finish
