This book is a sleeper. I picked it in a bargain section and then could not put it down! It was an easy read although it had a intricate plot and many characters.I enjoyed the well developed characters in the book, which featured many women. The story was set in Chennai in India and the main character was a successful middle aged woman , an American who went on a trip to India and because of one incident that happened to her when she first arrived, she became enmeshed in the lives of the people she met.Sisters of the Sari is essentially about female empowerment and female betterment but there was humour throughout the book . Very good read! Sisters of the Sari is a compelling story of self discovery not just for the female American CEO who is trying to improve the lives of some south Indian women she befriended on a visit to Chennai, a city in South India, but for the women themselves. I love learning more about the Indian culture and wasn't even aware of yet another huge city in this subcontinent of a country. The women have so much to overcome; forget the glass cieling - they're trying to get in the front door with their heads held high. This fast paced story is a quick and compelling read. I can't say I'm tempted to visit Chennai but I am inspired to give more of my time and energy to local social networks.
This was a surprisingly good read--interesting story line with a good dash of humor thrown in.
