3 out of 5 starsThis book was actually kind of a quick read but packing for college has taken up most of my time.I really don't know how I feel about this book. On one hand, I enjoy the creepy, morbid humor and casual air of this heavy setting and plot. But there wasn't really a plot. It was almost a coming of age story with a dark twist with more fantasy than I imagined. I appreciated the fact that the main characters were people of color. The story was definitely strange, and I felt like I would have gotten more out of it if I had read Bleeding Violet first (which takes place in the same city) because I felt like I didn't really understand the setting well. This was an interesting book, but I wouldn't say it is in my favorite books. I admit I judged this book by its cover. Read the back cover, found it interesting! Then I actually read it.Like others said, there is NO BACKGROUND INFO AT ALL. Half of the time, I have no idea what's happening. I've had my fair share of bad books but this is the most poorly-written one I have ever encountered to date. It didn't bore me, no - but plot-wise? Terrible. That's one of the many negative words I can use to describe this book. I actually went to make an account to give this book a single star - I cannot imagine how anyone can enjoy this abomination.
What do You think about Slice Of Cherry (2011)?
I really enjoyed this book. It was disturbing and original, my two favorite things!
