Slow Sex: The Art And Craft Of The Female Orgasm (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
A one trick pony - OMing (a form of sexual mindfulness) is her universal answer. She guarantees women an orgasm every time by redefining "orgasm" to not require climax. In fact it is stretched to the point that it is present even in boring or somewhat unpleasant episodes – since you’re being so very open and Zen that you accept them all with equal-mindedness. Hmmm … does orgasm mean anything at all in this context? By the end orgasm almost seems to be an attitude or state of mind. Only for couples, nothing offered to do by oneself. I didn't feel her psychological comments about either sex (particularly her explanations and elaborations) contained much insight. Nonetheless, certain people may respond to it. I felt like it was more than a little hippie dippie (to use a very imprecise phrase worthy of hippie dippieism). Here was one phrase that really made me want to howl with frustration (not a good kind of frustration), "Just look at the way the natural world works; when each species follows its desires, you don't get a war zone— you get an ecosystem." Of course, idyllic nature, animals killing and eating each other (frequently while they are still alive) is practically the definition of peace. ... Or not.Still, like Freud, I think for all the bad theory and bad explanations in this book, some interesting phenomenon are being investigated (even if misunderstood). Freud's wrongheadedness is generally much more entertaining though. My favorite chapters were six and seven, "What Men Should Know About Women" and vice versa for chapter seven. I actually found them rather poignant. Which doesn't mean you will :')
