So Šarmom Parížanky (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Although half of the book is pretty much useless if you don't live in Paris, this book manages to achieve the purpose of all books: to make you feel like you've travelled somewhere. And make you feel inspired, also.I recommend this book if you are fascinated by the parisian style and/or if you're planning to travel to Paris and find museums, shops or restaurants away from the usual tourist spots. I ordered this book online as I can never seem to find it when I go to bookstores or stores like Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie (both good sources for quirky books I might add), so I had no idea what I was to find. What I expected the book to be was a guide on how to dress more like a Parisian woman, who are noted throughout style guides as women who make less work with more. What you receive instead is a surprisingly large Moleskine-quality (if not Moleskine itself) soft covered notebook. There are close to a hundred pages dedicated to the do's and don'ts of Parisian style that covers clothes, shoes, accessories and beauty, with mentions of where to purchase her 7 Must Have Items on each side of the Pond. But the rest of the book is dedicated to Styling Your Home like a Parisian or where to eat, shop and stay if you're in Paris. Had I but known about the home decor pages and the pages dedicated to "Where to... in Paris" before I bought it, I most likely would be a bit more disappointed. However, as I am going to Paris in the not-so-distant future, I'm looking forward to visiting just a bit more now. Though overall my opinion is still that Ms. de La Fressange could (and should) write a more in-depth book about Parisian (Fashion) Chic.

What do You think about So Šarmom Parížanky (2000)?

Hmm, still bit undecided :-( Wondering if it's just bad timing or something is missing? Love the look, love the pics (even I'm not that old fashioned type but great work of photographer), style is easy..... and still finished turning pages and I'm left with that feeling that something is missing... might be I didn't put all my heart into it? Really not sure.Or I'm too much on side of my English favourite ones (Gok Wan and Trinny & Sussannah strangely completed by VB) that I can find enough love for this one? Think mystery is hidden bit in that while others are not playing and trying to get you in this book just describes what's in Paris without intention to drag you in. Don't take me wrong but had feeling like writer doesn't really care if I like it or not just that real Parisienne would or wouldn't do this or that....Was left dissapointed but will still give it another try later on... who knows might give it more stars with new read.

I always keep this book in my bedstand so at night when I am feeling dumpy, lumpy and sad I can remind myself that only American woman allow themselves to feel this way and the French woman embrace their ages and unique qualities. It is fun to read over and over and includes fun tips on fashion, makeup, jewelry, food, where to go when in Paris, attitudes on beauty...and the little cartoons that De La Fressange does herself throughout the whole book makes me adore her even more. If you don't have style or if you do have style or if you just want to really know how a true Parisian lives liur ( DeLa Fressanges husband died as well and she still manages to get on with it) then this is your little bible....I know it is one of my bibles. I loved it! And I have a girl crush on De La Fressange!!
