A great sequel that left me satisfied with this book, but still wanting more in the next one. Tessa is down but not out in this book, still recovering from the betrayals, the lies, and general lack of support that ended the first book. Her stylist even tells her that the stress of her year has taken the shine out of her hair! That's some serious perk-damage, right there! Anyway, there is more mystery and drama here, centering around the copy-kitten who's reviving SOS, with a dark and mean twist. I sure hope Tessa catches a break in the third book, every single person she's nice to (that's everyone, that's how hard she tries! srsly!) lets her down, betrays her confidence, trust or reliance. She's almost turning into Little Nell from the Old Curiousity Shop, and if her fortunes don't improve soon, I'm going to cry bitter, bitter tears of sadness and rage on her behalf. I am also nominating her parents for the cluelessness hall of fame, which is quite a feat for a YA book! By the end of the book I felt a bit like Tessa herself, having seen so much cheating and betrayal that I'm mistrustful of even what seems to be a good turn of events for her at the end. Despite all of the dark elements I seem to be focusing on - sorry, things not going that great for me right now :(, this is a still a fun, funny and enjoyable book. Like the first one, it is deceptively perky, leading you to think it's just a wacky teen comedy (and it is), but seriously, it's got dark depths and sadness beneath those maroon and gray cheer uniforms and ribbons. This book just made me anxious. There are way to many poor choices being made by characters in this book, and Tessa still feels disengenous. After everything that went on in the previous book I feel like her parents suck for not figuring out and still constantly being away. I also feel like Tessa is practically ending up right where she was in the last book at the end which also annoyed me. I went back and forth over who the operative could be and that is most likely what kept me interested in this book. Since it is a series everything was left hanging in the air at the end. I am curious to see what is going to happen in the next volume, but since this didn't feel like a very enjoyable experience I am not sure that I will read it.
