What do You think about Some Clouds: A Hector Belascoaran Shayne Detective Novel (2002)?
Although Paco Ignacio Taibo II's crime novel, Some Clouds, was first published in Mexico (which makes sense because that's where it was written)back in 1985, I didn't finish it until last night,December 4, 2012, only 17 days before what some people say is the day the world ends, according to the Aztecs. Pursuant to that, let me tell you what a Mexican house painter recently told me about that Aztec December 21 end of the world date. He said lots of Mexican people believe December 21 will mark the beginning of a revolution in Mexico, where ordinary people will rise up against their oppressors, meaning the Drug Lords and the rampant corruption of Mexican government. Things have changed in Mexico since the time in which Some Clouds is set because, in some very scary ways, they've gotten much worse. Taibo's lone wolf detective can tell you how it was and there are still people in Mexico, including Taibo, who work at telling it like it is now.
