Something Deadly This Way Comes (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I was appalled at how much time and energy the characters spent around changing the outcome of one night. Seriously? Did anyone other than me wonder if the teen, sneaking out one night, maybe by chance find herself sneaking out a different night? perhaps that could potentially have the same dire outcome? Okay so they change Tammy NOT leaving her inattentive, video engrossed, severely helpless little brother alone THAT night. She's a teenager! Are we to assume that she never ever sneaks out again to meet her friends at a movie? Really?I didn't like this story line, I wanted to get to know the characters but every time I tried, the author threw in another curve ball, ... What Madison is attempting to do is do impossible, yet all of sudden we learn that one of her protagonists actually succeeded doing this already, that her Angel friends don't have a soul but really do have a soul, just didn't know it was a soul, yet expend their very existence saving souls! And I agree with another reviewer, prepare to hear Madison whine about how close she was to getting her own body, going back to Tammy to change possible fate for one might then back to her body, whining! This was just not for me I have struggled to like this series because I love Kim Harrison's Rachael Morgan books. Unfortunately, the working of this dark timekeeper and the rules that make her other-world function don't make sense. It doesn't have the fast, loose and adult themes of Rachael Morgan and it is harder to forgive the on-the-fly rules that she invents to explain why Madison can do the things she does. I won't struggle through a fourth book. It is too childish for adults and too adult for teenagers.
