Something M.Y.T.H. Inc. (2004) - Plot & Excerpts

I picked up several beaten-up MYTH books at my high school library booksale when they were getting rid of their beaten-up paperbacks. This was back in 1996 or '97 or something. I loved these books and quickly read them as I got a few additional ones to fill in the gaps. Then I reached 'Sweet Myth-tery of Life,' which was the last one written. It was also the only one to end in a cliffhanger. I looked at the publication dates off all the MYTH books and saw they came out every three years or so. The next book should come out any time now. This is before I had regular access to the internets, so I would religiously go to the Asprin section of the local bookstore and search for anything new. This ritual continued for probably a couple of years.Eventually I forgot about it.Until, years later, I saw Asprin was writing again. I was very glad he got his personal problems figured out and bought the book. It was not the next in the series, but one that happens somewhere in the middle-ish that he wrote to get back into the saddle before he continued the series. I tried to read it and realized I had no idea who any of these characters even were. So that meant a re-read of the series.A re-read that took me a very long time. So I read 'Something MYTH Inc.' long after it finally came out. And after that long wait, it was okay. For several reasons, it should have been combined with 'Sweet Myth-tery of Life.' 'Life' would have benefited from someone in it who was doing something. Skeeve's decision toward the end of 'Something' would have meant more in 'Life.' Anyway. I'm just hoping the other MYTH books written after Asprin's hiatus are more fun.

This is the twelfth and final volume of one of my favorite series of all time. A word of warning: read the rest of the series first. And if it's been a while (as it had been with me), at least reread Sweet Myth-tery of Life. I was a little lost here and there, as some events in this book take place simultaneously with its predecessor. Also note that as this is a book with M.Y.T.H. Inc. in the title, it is not narrated solely by Skeeve, but (in this case) mostly by Guido. His incessant Guys'n'Dolls-esque speech gets a bit tiring from time to time, but if you enjoy old mafia movies there are certain scenes that are just a hoot. I would share the plot, but there isn't much to say. Ostensibly it's about a popular uprising against The Great Skeeve for raising taxes, but really it's just a tying up of loose ends. The ending is optimistic, and it's nice to have some closure after all these years.

What do You think about Something M.Y.T.H. Inc. (2004)?

A This book was written for teen boys and girls who like Myths and AdventureB I give this book 3 starsC My thoughts on the book was that it was very exciting and adventuress it included a lot of action and I liked that. My opinion on the book was that it was suspenseful and it had a lot of cliff hangers. Ideas for this book that I would give the other is to keep talking about the subject you are on for more than one chapter for example some parts that need a lot more description and details just cut off and he doesn't get back to it for another two or three chapters going on and on about something else.D The theme of this book is to never let somebody important to you slip away.

Rating: 4 1/2 starsOMGOMGOMGOMG. This book was such a vast improvement from the two that take place concurrently. Don't get me wrong, I adored Myth-Nomers and Im-Pervections and Sweet Myth-Tery of Life, but this one was just amazing. From the Fellowship of the Ring mocking Robin Hood wanna-be's (seriously, they're using The Fellowship of the Ring as their point of reference, to Gleep actually talking, Massha getting engaged, and Guido and Nunzio's antics, This book was a brilliant wrap-up to a three story arc.I'll properly review this when I have a few minutes. I'll be taking a day or so to type out all of my reviews at some point.

This is a cute series, not too many laugh-out-loud parts, but still very enjoyable. You've got a pet dragon with breath that can peel paint, Deveels are actually just beings from Deva, the female counterparts of Trolls are Trollops, and apparently most humans are Klahds. Although this sounds like a Xanth novel, it's not all that similar. The lessons are fewer and farther between, the books are much less formulatic, and the puns are actually more in check. Still, if you liked Xanth, you'll like this. If you didn't like Xanth, you still might like this.Something Myth Inc. is the twelfth book, and it's actually the best Myth novel written in a while...okay, Myth-ion Improbable was also good, but that was set farther back in the timeline. I tend to enjoy the Myth-Inc books a bit less, but this was very fun (if the title includes the phrase "Myth Inc.", then it's being told from the point of view of other members of the crew, instead of just Skeeve's perspective). It occurs simultaneous to Sweet Myth-tery of Life, but you can barely tell, and it advances the timeline a little farther than that book as well. Aside from Myth-ion, the last few Myth books have gotten a bit angsty for Skeeve and Aahz, and it definitely detracted from the comedy for me. But Something Myth Inc left that on the back-burner and worked with other characters, so the angst sorta worked itself out behind the scenes. I'm looking forward to more Myths soon -- Asprin's finally on a role.
