Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

As a character, Father Tim does not disappoint. How nice to have him back in Mitford with his wife and reconnecting to familiar characters. What an example he is of aging gracefully but actively reaching out in helpful ways to others, spiritually and practically. His goal seemed to be: "To see the useless made useful, the scattered made whole." This was a delightful and very engaging book.I'm challenged by his usual reply to requests: "Consider it done."I loved the witty, descriptive jargon:"That'd bring tears to a glass eye.""Any man can be roped, but not every man tied.""His mind was empty as a goard.""That dog wouldn't hunt.""If he every said what was one his mind, he'd be speechless.""One more frog off the bank.""Be there or be square.""The economy boomed when you came to town.""Looks to be all apple and no worm"One man's trash is another man's bling.""May you live to finance the education of your grandchildren."Best wisdom: "We are all fixing what's broken. It is the task of a lifetime." In some ways this felt bleaker than the previous Mitford books (though I think I missed a couple of the later ones): retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be, and people are still struggling with their personal problems. But then Mitford itself rallied, and the little touches of humor and personality came through, drawing me back into a little town that needs to change but also wants to stay the same. All the old characters are there, and growing. A delightful addition to the series.

What do You think about Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good (2014)?

This book is a big piece of shit. I read 70 percent of it before I had to stop from boredom.

It was fun to visit Mitford again but this book was weak. I hope it is the last.
