Sookie Stackhouse 8 Volume Set (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I actually was surprised about how much i enjoyed most of the books in this set. i have to say that i did not know overly much about this set or the books themselves when i bought it. I was just in search of a nice vampire story that i could read because i was just in the mood for it, and this set just came out -back when- and i just bought it thinking that it couldn't be that bad. I only later -after reading the entire thing- learned about the TV show and never watched, that so...When i started with the first book i found the writing a bit too easy and I have to say that i hated Bill (still do by the way) and cold not really understand Sookie in many aspects, but somehow the story just sucked me into reading all of the books in about 2 weeks anyways. Which shows that even though the story and the characters give you -or at least it gave me- the urge to throw the book or reach into it to shake someone really hard in hopes that they will gain at least some sense of normal intelligence again, Harris still wrote the entire thing in a way that you want to continue reading because you want to -have to!- know what will happen next and if finally something happens like you want it to happen. BUT i did really not enjoy the last books ending, the 8th in this set to be more specific if i am being unclear in some way, was just not good enough to me to want to go and pick up the other books that came out after this i came to owning this set. I do understand why people want to read more, and i do have a bit inside me that wants to get them and read them just to finish the series, but as i said there are just a few things in the entire series that kept going on my nerves and even though the story sucked me into reading all 8 books, after those 8 books i am done with Sookie and all the other characters of this series (even though i could go for a series revolving completely about Eric and the live that he let -how he came to be vampire, and his life up until this series would be fantastic!) and not read anymore of this series, very possible ever. Re-reading the books that i have don't count of course. The reason for that being that in the 8th book there were just so many of those annoying little things that just kept bugging me throughout the entire series, pilled up so high that i could no longer ignore them and have to say that i was very happen that i was done with the books with the books and could stop. It is not very often -or at all that i can remember- that i do not finish a series and read all the books that exist within it once i started it. But this will be my first series that i do not finish, mostly because i really did not like the 8th book and just don't want to read anymore and be more disappointed then i already am with the story. So overall: Fantastic book series, definitely worth the read, and this set is fantastic. The books are quite beautiful, the covers really lovely, the binding is sturdy enough that even though i re-read some of the books already, they still have not cracked -which is how i like my paperbacks. All in all, i would say that it is a series worth reading, and but don't expect to not hate all of the characters at one point or another, because that is just how this series is written. But still, go read it if you love vampire stories, because this is one of the better ones out there! These novels were ok, although a slight disappointment after watching the True Blood series. With every other book set that has a TV series as well i have preferred the book set but these books are the exception and i wasn't very impressed. The only good thing about the books is you skip all the boring, uninteresting parts of the TV series about Jason and Lafayette etc. Would only recommend reading if you haven't already watched True Blood.
