SoulPancake: Chew On Life's Big Questions (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
The book is divided into 9 catagories:- The brain & the soul- Art & creativity- Experiences & emotions- Love, sex, & relationships- Virtues & vices- Introspection, reflection, & identity- God & religion- Life, death, & livingSections are “kicked off” by noteworthy contributors including David Lynch, Justin Vernon, and Josh Ritter. It’s difficult to decide what I enjoyed most about SoulPancake, between fascinating quotes, facts, artwork, and graphic design - and the interactive aspect. This is a book that not only makes the reader think; it drives the reader to creativity, to question one’s self and provide answers. And in case you hadn’t caught on, this project was put together by Dwight from the office! Huzzah I found this a little overwhelming at first, so it took me a bit of time to actually want to read it. It's basically a collection of art, quotes and short pieces (essays and poems) that are supposed to help you examine different aspects of life and death. There are also various questions and activities you can do. I like the idea and some of the quotes were stirring. I even got a great idea for my creative writing class. However, it's hard to really take this seriously as it's written by "Dwight" from The Office. I realize that in real life he may be very deep, but I can't see him any other way. Overall, however, I'm glad I read it. If anything, the design and idea are somewhat fresh.
