Sound Advice (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Emily was busy with her own life in Chicago, so when she received a call that she needed to return to her Grandmother's small town to check on her she was less than prepared to stay longer than the afternoon. Once she arrived she soon realized that her Grandmother shouldn't be left alone and Emily had some tough decisions to make. She didn't expect to meet Jess Carter, with his rough facade, and hard demeanor, nor did she intend to befriend his sweet daughter Katie. Jess had secrets and a past of his own and he fought to push Emily away to protect both him and Katie. What a beautifully written story of childhood memories, fairy tales, love, loss, and the will to succeed. This story was so descriptive that I felt like I was in Nana's living room on a warm summer afternoon watching dust settle on the floral couch. Nothing was rushed, this book traveled along at a moderate pace, and once I hit 50% I was eager to find out where the story would go next in this small town tale. The story between Emily and Jess is a sweet and fairly modest love story. I will list this on my top books of 2014, and I would recommend it to everyone who likes a good romance story. No cliffhanger, but I won't give up the ending to you. The next in the series is a whole new story, yet it seems the fairy tales continue :) What a wonderful story. Jess has a daughter who is deaf daughter whom he protects from everything, especially a woman that might leave her like her mother. Emily comes home to sort her Grandmother out and vowed to never live in a small town again. Could she be the woman to break through the ice around Jess's heart? Could Jess be the man that Emily needs? LB spins a story with wonder and has me hooked. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a great romance.
