This is a cute children's book that talks about Spring. In this book the mole is excited, but the bear is still sleeping. This is a good book to show how bears sleep for a long period, while other animals don't. There are certain highlighted words which show the actions of the mole. For example when he felt the mud under his feet there was a "squish. squish. squish." The mole comes up with a great plan to try and wake up the bear. He makes him a huge breakfast and tells him to wake up because spring is here. Though by the time the mole is finished and the bear starts to eat the breakfast he falls asleep and the bear says "wake up mole! Spring is here". It's interesting how the whole time the mole is trying to wake the bear up and by the end he is sleeping. Young Mole wakes up to find spring has arrived. Excited, he tries to wake Bear up. Sticks, feathers and a trumpet are sued as wake-up tools. These are to no avail. Then Mole thinks of something that is sure to wake Bear--his sense of smell.I love the typeset in this book. Mole's actions to wake Bear are in different colors as well as his snores. This book would tie in well with a spring unit theme.
Cute story about spring being here, and two friends, bear and mole. Good for a spring storytime!
