St Paul Conspiracy Theory (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Exciting plot; well-developed characters; fast-paced action. This author's writing style is highly readable; but, as I've noted in other reviews, I find his misuse of verb tenses frustrating. I noted no fewer than 90 instances of simple past tense when the past perfect or present perfect would have made the time line clearer. The writer also frequently uses the wrong case of pronouns (especially confusing who and whom). He also has problems with the punctuation of compound sentences and sentences with compound predicates. Ordinarily those problems would cause me to rate a book much lower; but the plot strength of this one trumps all the editing failures. This was a 3.5 star book for me. Good story, although somewhat predictable, but the writing (editing?) was a bit suspect at times. When you use an obvious cliche twice within a few sentences it seems as though the attention to detail wasn't there. This happened frequently through the book. And the characters weren't as in depth as they could have been. I do however know that Sally has shoulder length red hair as it was stated about a hundred times... Anyway, it was a quick read that I mostly enjoyed. And being a Minnesota girl I certainly didn't mind all of the local references ;)

Had the connections figured out before the story ended but still an OK read

Good police work in the story line...suspenseful until the end.
