Stella Bain (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Stella Bain was an excellent book about a woman who lost her memory while serving as a nurse's aide during World War I. Stella travels to London to help her find who she is. She meets a couple, Dr. and Mrs. Bridge, who take her into their home. Dr. Bridge helps Stella with her memory loss. It isn't until Stella sees an old friend that she begins to remember her old life. She returns to the United States to sort out issues in her old life. It was a a good story with fascinating details about life in the WWI Tim E. period. This is a story of a woman who volunteered in WWI as a nurses aid and ambulance driver in France. She loses her memory due to a trauma. A sudden memory takes her to London where she encounters a doctor and his wife who help her recover her past. The story of her past weaves in and out of the narrative. This book draws you in as a warm fire on a cold windy day keeps you close and warm from the threatening storm. I highly recommend this book. Anita Shreve once again combines a fictional characters with historical situations that bring to life both the characters and historical significance.
