Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Steve Jobs is a crazy man but in a good way! He truly gave his life and passion to his art. It was interesting to see there was the Steve Jobs as the CEO of Apple Inc. and then the personal side of him that was different but neat in some way. His perfectionist ways were considered impossible, but at the same time he wanted to make it simple? He was adopted, he dropped out of college, and he was fired! And yet he is considered one of the most passionate people of our time. I found it interesting that the i in iMac or iPod stands for "individual, instruct, inform, inspire." These are some of my favorite paragraphs from the book. "We all have a short period of time on this earth. We probably only have the opportunity to do a few things really great and do them really well...My feeling is I've got to accomplish a lot of these "Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith," he told them. His most important choice was remaining true to what he loved, he said, whether it was work or a life partner. If they hadn't found that love yet, he told them, "Keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.""They had talked about his work, his likes and dislikes, and about God. Jobs told him he was "fifty-fifty on believing in God." But, he said, "I like to think that something survives after you die." After reflecting on that, he added, "But, on the other hand, perhaps it's like an on-off switch." That brought a small smile to his face. "Maybe that's why I never liked to put on-off switches on Apple devices," he said." "Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Wow... INSPIRING doesn't describe sufficiently what I'd like to say. Someone told me once that most of us are content just being part of the human race, but ocassionally an extraordinary mind comes along and pushes us all forward in leaps in bounds; Steve Jobs was certainly that mind!! His contributions, his spirit, his vision, integrity, dedication, and on, and on have profoundly affected how we live. The world had a huge loss when he left, but his legacy will be forever part of our destiny. Thank you for continuing to influence humanity today Steve Jobs!
