Summer Girls By: Hailey Abbot Realistic Fiction Summer Girls surrounds three girls over their summer vacations. Jessica comes to the beach house every year with her family. She is finally ready for it to be 'her' summer after watching her older cousins do things she couldn't when she was younger. Laura is new to the family. Her mom has just married Jessica's uncle. Lastly, Greer is Jessica and Laura's cousin. Her dad is very rich and she is used to spending her summers in exotic places. Greer doesn't want to spend the holiday with her family she doesn't know. The girls run into problems with their jobs, family, love, and each other. The theme of this book is loyalty and family. Laura meets a boy at work the first day she gets to the beach. Later she realizes it's Jessica's older brother, Drew. Pushing aside her own emotions she and Drew call it quits. Jessica really likes a boy named Liam. He is a jerk and everyone can see that except her. When Greer drunkenly hooks up with him problems between the two arise. Greer meets a boy named Grady at her boating lessons. They hit it off and are together almost all summer. She ruins it the night of the hook up. At the end all three talk it out and realize how important family is and how nothing should get in the way of their last week at the beach. I think mostly teenage girls would enjoy this book. It's all about summer romance and relationships with friends. The author had a very interesting style of writing this book. Each chapter was in a different point of view of all of the girls. It was interesting to see how each girl thought of the situations presented. I have never read a book like this and I loved it because I could see different opinions and perspectives. I loved this book! I love books about summer and the beach because that is my favorite time of the year. It also helped show you that something you may think is a big deal really isn't. The girls were all so different and that's what kept the book interesting. There was never a dull moment. This was the first book I read by this author and would defiantly read another book of hers. I would also recommend this book to a friend. "I know this summer will be perfect." pg. 15 First of all I think it's fine for step cousins to like each other cause they are only related be marriage right?? Well the book was really good! It seems realistic that it could happen. Family spends a whole summer together and there's lots of drama and parties... I could see this totally happening. I loved the characters but sad that they didn't end up with the guys in this book... I guess I'm going to have to wait and see...
