Super Brain: Unleashing The Explosive Power Of Your Mind To Maximize Health, Happiness, And Spiritual Well-Being (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
When I started this book I was intrigued and that kept on for few chapters. The book did talk about a lot of physics and science and I have to mention this because the title has Spirituality and I was really skeptic if Authors would talk about Physics in any detail. There was a lot of stuff on Neuroscience in the following chapters and a whole lot of stuff on topics like weight loss, depression, disease prevention, etc which I was extremely patient with. Then came the last few chapters that talked about God and Spirituality. According to me they were terrible. They had no clear theme and no originality and most importantly they were clearly out of context. At times these chapters made me feel that two Authors just met at a coffee place and decided to write a single book that had mishmash of their respective field of expertise.I shouldn't be saying this but I personally would have liked this book if Dr.Rudolph E. Tanzi had written this book without co-authoring with Deepak Chopra. Mr. Chopra's spirituality stuff really gets in the way of things that I really wanted to hear about: Physics, Neuroscience and even Alzheimer's research for that matter. This is at best an average self-help book that had the potential to become a really good science book if not for Deepak Chopra. Disappointing. The book provides a lot of information about how the brain works and amazing stories about how people recovered from brain injuries. Then it covered various topics like anxiety, depression, over eating, God, and on and on. It was like listening to a series of sermons and the actions for you to do are you control your mind and you take small steps to go from a bad state to a good state. While the mind is powerful, the answer to every problem isn't simply to think positive. The only takeaway I got from this book is that we shouldn't underestimate the ability of the brain. As we get older, we commonly use the phrases "having a senior moment" or "my mind isn't what it used to be." The brain is a muscle. We have to eat healthy, exercise, and use the brain constantly to keep in good shape.
