Surviving Your Stupid, Stupid Decision To Go To Grad School (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
“Surviving Your Stupid, Stupid Decision to Go to Grad School,” by stand-up comedian and molecular biology Ph.D. Adam Ruben is a delightful send-up of the grad school experience. While some of the material will be familiar territory for readers of PhD Comics (i.e. tips for scoring free food), much of book covers fresh ground, using text, diagrams, and often hilarious fact boxes (did you know you can tell the number of years a person has been in grad school by counting the rings under their eyes?). Though the book doesn’t provide much advice on how to actually survive grad school, it is sure to make you laugh and improve your morale. That’s got to be worth something right? Disclosure: You will not stop laughing.Disclosure: My abs were burning.Being a fiction person, I originally wasn't going to read this book, but boy, I am so glad I did!I've never actually liked most non-fiction books, so when my English class for Autumn 2014 assigned me summer homework to read a non-fiction book, I was pretty stooped. So I read through an article that recommended some books and I chose to read this one because the cover made me laugh. And it sounded important.Oh my god. Adam Ruben is a genius. He is literally the God of I'm-Going-To-Make-People-Laugh-So-Much-They'll-Hate-Me. Seriously, I am having mixed emotions towards him.But remember that this book is more about humour than actual advice. For me, it was fine either way since I am not actually going to go to grad school (UK universities rock!), although there are a little tidbits scattered here and there. Also, it uses some vulgar language that can be offensive to some people. So if you're a bit on the sensitive side, I would suggest that you NOT read this book. However, if you aren't that bothered by it, then definitely go for it!Bottom line is, if you want actual grad school advice, look for another book. If you just want to choke on your own laughter, then read it.

Pertains more to grad school than law school, but there were some nuggets in there.
