This is the second book and you do have to read the books in order. After that emotional ride of book 1 you have Kate who is the fighter she hasalways been. Trying to help the police find the person that hurt her also dubbed"The Photographer." Kate finds her strength with the help of her love Derrick. But it's not all happy days for them and they also have some issues to overcome. Kate's relationships with her sister Annie and also the detectives working on the caseto catch her assailant are so well written. The connection that Kate and her sister Annieshare is so real it's like you know them personally. You can feel all the ups and downs that they go through together. All while there's a killer on the loose tormenting Kateand letting her know he is still watching her. This book flowed so well and I had it done in one day. Just couldn't put it down.On to book 3 When I first started reading this series, I was unsure about how I felt. The first book was a roller-coaster of emotions and I, in all honesty, didn't like some aspects of the first book. But this second book open my eyes to a lot of things in the first book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading what happened after the first book! It's one of the best sequels to a series I have ever read and I'm anxious to find out what happens in the next book!Kate has survived an event that no person should have to endure. She thinks she's safe, until The Photographer, the man that almost broke her, starts leaving pictures that leave her feeling vulnerable and unsafe. He's watching her and he will stop at nothing until he has completely broken her. But Kate is a fighter and she will not wait around until he finds her again. She refuses to give anything else up for this sadistic killer and she vows to take that horrible event and use it as motivation to move on and find her place in the world. Will that future include the man she loves? Kate gave all her trust to Derrick, just to have that trust thrown back in her face. She's left broken, wondering if she can ever be with him again, or even trust him again? Forgiveness is going to be hard to give, especially when you don't know if you can be with the man who once meant everything to you, but shattered your heart in a moment. And when Kate finds out who the killer is, can she count on Derrick to be there for her? Can she face the monster behind the mask? I want to applaud this author for writing such a compelling, yet, heartbreaking story. I don't think I could have written something so beautiful, heartbreaking, and inspiring. The author really knows how to make, us, as readers, feel everything that Kate is going through, the good and the bad. You can't help but want to cry with Kate, smile with her, and want to wrap her into a hug and tell her everything will be alright. I didn't connect with Kate's character in the first book, but I felt really connected to her in this book. Kate was so strong in this book, she made me realize that life is precious and you can either let the bad things run over you, rule you, and conquer you, or you can stand up and fight back, living every day to its fullest. And Derrick? Wow! I couldn't stand what he did in the last book, didn't think I could forgive him or like him in this book, but I was wrong! Derrick is such an important, loving, and amazing character. He redeemed himself in this book and I admire him and his love he has for his Kate. Love him! This book, this series, is a must read. These books will capture your attention, break your heart, and make you shed a few tears, but at the end of the day, these qualities are what make a book brilliant. Books that can touch your heart are the best books of all. I highly, highly recommend this book and this series! My favorite quotes: "Kate, I love you too but this isn't broken. What we have, that spark, the connection--it's all still there. Maybe two people can be broken on their own, but together they heal together, they are whole. I am broken without you in my life." "Happiness is the face of someone who loves you." "She was beautiful and fierce, but delicate and broken. She loved to fight and fought to love." "To a beauty that never tarnishes, no matter the hardships she faces and to a love that never ends, no matter the mistakes he had made."
