Tales From Development Hell: The Greatest Movies Never Made? (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I really enjoyed this book. Some of the reviews are correct, if you geek over film then you'll be aware of some of these stories already. I did enjoy how everything was nicely compiled in a chapter so if you didn't know it was easy to read it all in one.The only problem is that this book wasn't longer and it wasn't written a bit sharper.I did want to read the screenplays for Tomb Raider, Planet of the Apes (Burton), and a few of the other stories they tried desperately to bring to green-light. So I'll certainly look into those. Based on reading this book, it is a small miracle that any movies ever get made in Hollywood. The process of going from script to screen is described as an agonising experience, with studio bosses, stars and agents all determined to have some kind of input, irrespective of whether the input will improve the finished product. Stand out chapters included the discussion of films that did get made, such as Indiana Jones 4 (why George Lucas, why?!) and Tomb Raider, and films that never did see the light of day, including The Hot Zone and Sandman, the latter of which was especially interesting given my love of the series.A fascinating glimpse into the Hollywood machine.
