Tall, Dark, And Vampire (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Olivia's character had duplicitous behaviors. One moment she was this fierce vampire then the next she was this soft leader who let her coven get away with too much. I felt like I was watching a sweet grandma "scold" her grandchild; as in, using the soft voice to tell them not to do something then give them a hug. The story could have been much better if the author would have just worked on making the main character more believable. Love paranormal romance? I know I do, and if you haven’t read any of Sara Humphrey’s Amoveo( shape-shifter) books, you really should. So when I saw that she had written a new series about vampires-oh, how I love vampires-I was totally in! This is the first in the series and I am half way through the second one-reading them back to back-something I rarely do unless I am really enjoying the read. What I liked about this book:Olivia is a three hundred year old vampire. She was in love and lost her fiance, Douglas, to a vampire, the same night she was turned. She has never loved again-or slept with anyone else. Twenty years previous to this, she started dreaming about her lost love, pretty x-rated dreams. The problem with this is, vampires don’t dream. So when a murder happens close to her nightclub, The Coven, and a detective that looks like her lost love(and named Doug) comes to investigate, things get interesting to say the least. The story takes place in the same world as the Amoveo books, so there is mention of them. To help that along, Pete, from those books, has crossed over to these books. He’s now a vampire, and Olivia is his maker. In this world of vampires, the makers usually keep their own group of made vampires living with them, in what they call, Covens. So Olivia has a small group of trusted vampires that work at her nightclub and make for a good group of secondary characters-including one that ends up being the main character in the second book, entitled, Vampire Trouble. Ms. Humphreys has built a believable vampire world and has clearly spent a good amount of time embellishing on the world she has built. As in any vampire book, she has her own views of what a vampire should be and combines it with some of the usual vampire characteristics. It made for a different and refreshing world that I enjoyed reading about. My favorite part of the world building is the legend of the Bloodmate(combined with daywalking)-supposedly just that, a legend. Or is it? What didn’t I like about this book:I got pretty much what I wanted from this book. No real downside to be had here if you like paranormal romance. Who would I recommend this book to:Mystery, murders, romance, hot sex scenes, and good world building. Yep, love all that, and it’s exactly what you get with this book. A fast, and entertaining read, is also what you get. I loved reading it and can definitely recommend this to all paranormal romance fans.(PureTextuality.com)
