For the most part Tape was an enjoyable book. Things I particularly liked, was the split narration style, which worked really well on audio. I liked that each chapter had both narratives, switching back and forth rapidly. It kept the story moving along at a good pace, and kept me interested.I love the idea of this story, and for the most part it was done really well. There was however one exception to this, and this thing bothered me so much that I had to mark down the book a few points. It, for me, took away the enjoyment. What is the negative? Well, for me, it was the characters. Now, don't get me wrong, the actual characters were great, and I loved their individual storylines. I liked that each of them had their own things going on in their timelines, and it wasn't solely about the Tapes. However, the part that really bothered me, was their ages. The whole way through this book, they just seemed like they were older than they actually were. I think this would have been an easier read for me, had they been about sixteen, because at the ages they were supposed to be. I didn't buy it. Both characters, came across as much older, and I felt a bit disconnected from the story, because of the fact that I was trying to believe them as the age they were.Overall, it was a decent book, and I did really enjoy the storyline. Overall: Challenging to the mind as you figure out what's happening. A satisfying read.I admit, I was a bit challenged to know what was going on with the characters and the communication from one time to another . . . But, I kept going and fell in love with this the mystery and connection. I don't want to give anything away, but this book held my interest. The romance was sweet. The pace was quick, and I liked that Ryan and Ameliah had depth. Connecting through time by means of a tape player was cool.I think reluctant readers who like challenges, but easier reading will like this. Keeping track of what is going on and the characters will be have students paying attention. The ending was wonderful and rewarding.Thank you so much to HarperCollins for the ARC, which I received at BEA.
What do You think about Tape (2014)?
Got through several chapters and realised it was too "young" for me. Nicely written though.
