More like a novella on women bonding and lost intimate reclamations. Excellent girl talks (cooking; kitchen centric; relations etc.) and situation development with feel-good resolutions. I would have preferred giving a two star but I followed up one of the story’s axioms – Be kind, for everyone is carrying a heavy burden (Renie’s research)!A successful ‘Motivational Speaker’ Cece, decides to call it a quit and room with three other women (Lise: physician, owner of the house with an old yellow lab, divorcee with estranged daughter, Sandy// Joni: superb chef, divorcee// Renie: reporter, single, gay with estranged daughter, Haley, given up for adoption at birth). Cece’s mother at ‘HavenCrest’ talks to her dead father as does Ceci to her recently dead close-friend, Penny; in both cases providing inspiration/confirmation to respective individuals. The four women opt for a road trip to confront their demons with expectations of resolution and so it is. There is a little sob story of dying Michael at a hospice, The Arms, and so on. Nevertheless, it’s not a bad read! A very quick read, but comforting like a good cup of tea, a favorite quilt and a porch in summertime. Yes, it's chic lit at its best. And this story with a motivational speaker as its protagonist, whose home is so organized that she can go home and with a couple of hours of cleaning have it ready to sell made me take a look at my home and be determined to clean and organize my clutter!
