Te Daba Por Muerto: Una Historia De Amor (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I know the 5-star rating is rare, but I'm boosting this up a star from my usual 4-star Enjoyed It because I Really Unexpectedly Enjoyed It. The story is so simple that it feels almost like a short story. But you know with short stories how you're drawn into the characters and then it just so disappointingly has to end? That doesn't happen here! You get the full story which is so satisfying. I really liked Paul, the main character, and I like having a good character to root for. Halfway through this book, almost nothing had happened. I kept reading anyway, because I finish what I've started. The whole dog talking thing was fine, but just overall, the book is slow. Then, the dog asks to be put down, then goes into a long justification of why it's best for this to happen now... she wants to go while she still has good time, etc. etc. Not only did I want to stop reading, because it made me sad, but I was annoyed that the author was trying to speak for dogs saying that they actually WANT this to happen. I kept reading, but only because this was for book club. In the end, I was glad I finished the book and that it wasn't the totally depressing ending I had imagined, but I should have trusted my gut, because I stay away from dog movies and books because they ALWAYS end with a dead animal. No thanks!

Good read! A man afraid to live his life, a talking talk and a family secret.
