Teach Like A Champion, Enhanced Edition: 49 Techniques That Put Students On The Path To College (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I should probably have read the newer version (2.0) but this is what my library had. While the advice should change with additional research, it’s a great place to start thinking about good teaching as a compilation of strategies that can be taught and learned. Some people are naturals at doing some of these techniques, but anyone can learn to be a better teacher by studying, practicing, and further refining their methods. I loved the strategies/techniques and have used many of them. I did not like the glorification of charter schools. Near the beginning, the author praises one teacher in this charter school who leaves her own children in day care for 10-12 hours a day so that she can spend those hours working at the charter school. Some of these charter schools have completely inhumane expectations of their staff and they burn out quickly after they have completely neglected their families or their health.
