Teach Your Buffalo To Play Drums (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Fun story about encouraging kids (or buffalos!) to pursue their interests. The syntax and structure of a second-person narrative isn't easily understood by all kids, so maybe save this one for older ones. Lots of winks to parents, and seeing a buffalo doing kid-things is definitely silly enough to be entertaining.Really great crayon drawings make this book stand out.Probably this book is best read together with elementary age kids, because of the potential for confusion. Your buffalo is trying to tell you something. He wants to learn drums. And no, this won't be like the last time, or the time before that. In fact, let's just forget all about the closet full of abandoned pursuits. This time it's for real. Vernick's book is chock full of laughs, visual and otherwise, as we go about teaching our buffalo to drum. And let's face it: that buffalo is darn cute. The ending provides a wonderful ba-dum-bump to the rest of the story.

Great illustrations. A little wordy. Would be best for primary school.
