Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Ten Things We Did book review: Ten Things we did (and probably shouldn’t have) is a story about a junior in high school named April. In the beginning of the book, her dad informs her that they’re going to move to Ohio, but April does not want to move. After a lot of begging and pleading, she finally convinces her dad and moves in with her senior friend Violet (Vi). April’s dad thinks that she is moving into a house that is under parental supervision, but Vi’s mom performs in plays and performs for people all over the country. So, April and her friend Violet are living all alone with no supervision or rules. Although in the beginning they seem to have everything under control, towards the middle things start to get chaotic and there are many unfortunate events that occur and April does not know what to do or how to handle it, but in the end she finds a way. This book is full of many problems and conflicts that these two girls have to solve, more problems regarding April than Violet, but many of the problems involve both girls. In my opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. These types of books are the ones I like reading the most because it involves teenagers and their everyday lives. It’s a very light read and it’s easy to follow the plot. The book was filled with unexpected twists and had a little bit of a mystery in it because April is trying to find out who her boyfriend cheated on her with. I just wanted to keep reading it and had trouble putting it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. It was a very good story and had an interesting plot. I recommend this book to everyone, although it does have some “inappropriate” content in some parts of the story, it’s still a great book and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is into fiction and enjoys reading about people’s everyday lives. Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski is an easy-ready file with many "ideal" friendship drama, tremendous juvenile heartbreaks, and typical parental hood issues. Which teenager could not relate to such stories? Are you looking for a novel to ease your mind from that pile of work? Or enjoy by the beach and have a good laugh? Or are you looking for another person to put your thoughts and voices that haunt your troubled-teenage-brain into words? This is it!If you were given the opportunity to move in with your best friend without parental advice, what would you do? This is the perfect book to look at the different ways April, a sixteen-year old girl, on a quest for self-knowledge and independence. She moves in with ultimate best friend, Vi, while her dad and step-mother moves to Cleveland and her mother enjoys a romantic stay with her boyfriend in France. Although it was not April's decision nor was it an "opportunity" that strikes her life by an angel, April had told of story that is 20% true and 80% lies to convince her parents to make it happen. In this book, you will discover the truth behind teenager's manipulative mind and how we get the "opportunities" to do the things we do. For example: Things April and her friends shouldn't have done #3: Skip school, or "#8: Throwing a crazy party without a permission." Every teenager had thought of this. This story is simultaneously bittersweet and HILARIOUS! Mlynowski had truly gotten into a mind and heart of a teenager girl - making it relatable through its chaotic sciences, heartbreaking scenes, and every part had a taste of humour. Every girl would enjoy this book because it illustrates the ideal "dream" of a teenager - to be parent less. This book answers the question: Do you really want to be parent less at such young age? In the book, you'll have an answer of your own. In order to survive parent-free, April has to juggle through everyday responsibility, financial responsibility and school responsibility. This book puts you into the skin of a young girl who thought her life had TRULY began ... or NOT. It is simple, fast read, and easy going. I highly recommend it for those who simple want to escape a stressful load work and enjoy the ride with this hilarious novel.
