Tentare Un Libertino (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Okay. This was not what I was expecting from this book. AT ALL. Now, I was thinking that back in the day, the word "scandalous" was meaning that girls kissed guys flippantly and danced in short skirts. NOT practically mauling your dead brothers best friend every chance you got. In the very beginning I was waiting for Gwen to just live a little and go dancing or drink some hard liquor. Do something that was considered 'bad' for a proper lady back then. I guess I got more than I bargained for. This book went into explicit detail on things that I really (and I mean REALLY) don't want to know about. This is listed under Young Adult for goodness sakes! I don't think anyone under 17 should be reading this. It was 100%edly sexual. Almost the whole thing. I had to skip over so many pages to save some of my innocence it was ridiculous. Now, for the part that I did like. The writing was pretty fantastic. Duran has a get way of explaining settings and moods. Her Chat Noir explination was great. Alex was also a character that I enjoyed. He was sarcastic and rude but, I liked him. He wasn't one of the other noobs (yes I just said mnoobs because this book makes me want to use gamer talk for some reason) that tripped over themselves trying to get Gwen's attention. Well. I think I have said what needs to be said. I suppose I would recommend this book to people in their 30's whole have a lack of a love life and need to live through book characters. Oher than that. Please read with caution. You have been warned,Jessica I'd give 2.5 stars, actually - for some reason, I *liked* this book more than I should have. If not for the ending, which was blah, (just could be better) I would have given this three stars. I was pleasantly surprised by the humor and the fact that the heroine is neither a doormat nor a crybaby. Her few seconds of righteous fury after being jilted were marvelousss to read indeed. There were some good scenes and lines throughout the book - although I still can't believe the amount of curse-words that are dropped all over the place. (Relatively, anyway, for a regency.) I also don't believe that the heroine could have left on a trip with the hero unaccompanied and unchaperoned.Frankly, there are lots of historical holes in this book. Lots of things *wouldn't* have been allowed to happen. Sticklers for pure regency certainly shouldn't read this book, and in fact, I don't see myself ever reading this again. It was a one-time thing, never again, because if I read it again I think I'll find myself taking stars off my review.
