Texas Secrets (The Gallaghers Of Morning Star, #1) (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Watch out nora roberts this author may just have the talent to upset you as queen of well written romance. This book was AMAZING and just what i needed! I'm slogging through my nook library in an attempt weed out some (when i started this project i was pushing 1500) so ive been trying to get through a ton of really awful book...in fact i cant remember the last book i read that was actually good! So to come back in on this one well it made my heart weep with joy...and im not gonna lie it got a few real tears out of me too (a rarity). The characters were extremely well written though a little more backdrop on the heroines relationship wouldnt have gone amiss. Now normally i like my heroines all warrior princess like and this one definitely wasnt but i absolutely adored her (maybe because she reminded me of me a bit). Shes so spunky and full of life, her big heart and forgiving nature gets her into trouble but you cant help but love her for it. and that hero...all i can say is why dont men like that exist in real life? a cowboy with military training and a troubled past is obviously the recipe for an interesting romance hero but this one brought more to the table he felt very authentic. every girls dream is a guy tough enough (and who actually cares enough) to do battle for her but gentle enough that he would never hurt her and this hero definitely is the dream (despite a really dumb name). and a guy whos man enough to tell his woman he needs her...yum. I loved watching the romance develop between the 2 (and a real development after so many shorts!. The plot was wonderful there were no major plot suspenses/twists but its kept me interested and wasnt a storyline i think ive ever read before. And that WRITING...it was amazing i could weep for joy just for that alone. like nora roberts (one of the best imo) this author strikes just the right balance between romance and realism (only crossing over the hokey line a couple times). the flow of the story is so smooth i almost forget im reading and her execution of plot, character, and romantic development are all superbly done. The only real flaw i found in the book is that the sex scenes are more sweet than steamy but that isnt necessarily a bad thing and the wonderful story and writing more than make up for it. I laughed, i cried (just a little), and i LOVED this book. Highly recommend for lighter romance readers (its definitely not erotica) esp for anyone who likes nora roberts as the styles are very similar While I must admit that I got this as a freebie, it was my first book by this author and I was impressed both by the quality of the writing (and editing) as I was by the story itself. The characters were very current and likable. I do warn that is you as a reader get confused by a multitude of characters and their history this might be a frustrating read for you. However compared to books such as Tolkien and most Russian authors not nearly enough to confuse me. :)Since I can't seem to find this at the library I have a feeling I shall be downloading the rest of this series soon. It is a good read and while part of a series it works as a standalone book as well.
