Text Appeal (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Initially, there were two things about this book that I found alluring: the title and the premise of the story. However, after finishing it, I didn’t feel fully satisfied. There were some “nuts and bolts” that could have been “screwed tighter” to make this story truly exceptional. Some of the scenes were simply confusing and left me wondering why they are there and how they enrich the story. I felt that the main male character, Charlie, was not developed to its full potential. Charlie’s “bad boy” magnetism should have played an elemental function in the developing story. In many instances, however, it has been imperceptible. As far as Riley, the female protagonist, her growth towards the independence seems to be missing “the hook”, to make me “care” one way or another. I don’t intend to tell the author how this novel should have been written, since it’s neither my vision nor my “sweat and blood”. As a reader, however, I just wish that some angles of the story were explored in different ways. Overall I’ve enjoyed this book. When we started of with: "Hello, My name is Reily, and I'm addicted to sexy lingerie" my first response was: "Hello Reily, I'm a sexy lingerie addict myself". Everyone of us has an Inner Naughty Girl just waiting to be set free, Reily has a problem being able to open up and be herself, mainly because she's seeking her Daddy's approval. Once she gets past that and realizes that she needs to follow her heart and make herself happy, she's able to see that Charlie is the man for her. He believes in her, makes her stronger, and loves to see her Inner Naughty Girl on full display.
