The reality of what he’d allowed to happen came home to roost and he didn’t like what he saw when he looked in the mirror. He started drinking and gambling heavily. Finally, he had a case of Cutty Sark sent to his suite and stayed there in a drunken stupor for a week. He didn’t know what he would’ve done without Michelle—Lora too. Apparently, they told everyone he was down with bronchitis and Michelle managed the casino while he was soused. When word came that the Big Kahuna, as Lora was fond of calling him, demanded his presence, together they dried him out and Michelle accompanied him on Stu’s private plane. He wondered why she came along. He thought it was because she wanted to join the mile high club, which they did flying over the Sierras, but apparently Stu wanted to see her as well. Once they landed at MacCarran Charter Air Terminal, the company limousine whisked, them to the Hotel Odyssey and Stuart Wynne.
