The Adventures Of Bean Boy (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
This is my favorite quote from this book. (page 221) That's why they (superheroes) need sidekicks. Because your major sidekicks, the great ones, cover the chink. They recognize the kryptonite, the dark spells, the blind spot, then muster all their loyalty, courage, and dedication, recklessly putting themselves in danger, to cover it. Isn't this a great friend? Spouse? Sibling? Sometimes I don't want to accept that my real-life superheroes have weaknesses, but it is true that they all do. Sometimes I need to be the loyal sidekick. I was surprised to enjoy this book, about a boy that enters a contest to write a sidekick for a famous superhero comic, as much as I did. I loved Tucker and his brother's relationship, their mom who aspires to be more for her boys was very realistically written, and I even loved the prickly babysitter/classmate. I can't wait to recommend this one next summer when we are doing superhero-themed programming for Summer Reading!
