This review does contain spoilers. The idea behind the plot I like . . . but that is basically it.I felt this story was poorly written and missing character development, plot details, and all emotion. It feels like someone took a full length novel and cut out all the characters' emotions and thoughts then decided there was too much detail and took it away too. The left overs is what this story has. I can look past the time jumps and awkward jumpy pov (which really makes no sense since there is only one pov) for a good story, here they just made it worse. So if you are looking for a quick read or a way to kill time, go ahead read away. The sad thing is I really think the the idea behind the plot is quite good. But how can you take a woman living in the human world for the last five years - thinking she was completely human and full of morals - and just make her kill someone (multiple people) with not a thought about it. Fall in love with no mention of passion and barely any attraction, just a simple acknowledgement of a possible connection. Change her entire life based on some stranger's claims that are not all proven (only able to prove that she is in fact a shifter). The characters just don't make sense. I had no attachment to the characters at all (and i get attached really easy). We have so little detail on Craven that I am still questioning who he is. Yes, I understand that we got her pov and she knows nothing so we know nothing, but she should have been able to make some kind of personal opinion about him prior to sleeping, moving in,and agreeing to have kids with him. I honestly kept hoping there would be a big twist that would make my lack of attachment make sense. I don't recommend this book to anyone besides people looking to waste time on a quick read. Key words there are waste time! Jackie Coleman is a romantic at heart but even she knows that all things paranormal including shapeshifters, vampires, and the like are only fantasy.... or are they?* * * * A nice read that had a vague suspense/drama/mystery vibe going on. I enjoyed it but there was just something 'off' on the whole thing for me. Maybe it was because of a lack of world building or that the characters weren't developed enough for me to have any vested interest in their romance or situation. It does include open ended story lines that peaked my interest and this installment doesn't end in a cliffhanger (which I totally appreciated), just a teaser.
