The Assassin And The Healer (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Celaena has betrayed her boss and she pays dearly for it. Arobyn Hamil beats her and then sends her off on a trek to the desert as punishment. Separated from those she knows, she stops at an Inn during her journey and meets Yrene, a barmaid who gets in the middle of a brawl.I like that in this novella we get to see Celaena from Yrene’s perspective. Yrene is scared of her, sees her as feisty and arrogant. Yet Celaena quickly softens and teaches Yrene to defend herself. Celaena feels a pull towards this woman whose home in Ardalan was ripped away from her. Once again we see her softer side. This was more of a short story than a novella. A way for us to get a better glimpse of exactly who Celaena is. I really liked seeing Celaena helping another girl that lost her home because of Adarlan, it was a different side of her, she's usually arrogant and pretends she doesn't care about anything and then we see this side of her! Though I liked the story I don't think it was really necessary to have this short story because it didn't gave us any important information. This short story happens when Celeana is on her way to the Red Desert and she stays at an inn and meets Yrene the barmaid that wants to go to Antica so she can attend the Torre Cesme where she will became a true healer but she didn't have enough money to go there so she stayed at this inn and worked there. Celeane taught Yrene how to defend her self and in the end she leaves gold so she can go pursue her dream of becoming a healer and later come back to her home, Fenharrow, to help her people.
