The Body In The Piazza LP (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

2013 read by Tanya Eby. Faith Fairchild married to Reverend Tom Fairchild take a 10th anniversary trip to Rome and Tuscany. They befriend a local who is suddenly murdered right before them. The plan to attend Faith's friends cooking school at Cucina della Rossi, goes on but mysterious events keep happening and suddenly, Tom is kidnapped and all is connected to an assassination plot. Enjoyable.A Faith Fairchild Mystery Series book. This author is not worth the time. This book is the worst yet in the whole series.Faith Fairchild, the clotheshorse, designer name dropping, food snob is BORING. She was average entertainment until Body in the Big Apple. That's when the author started changing the 'facts' of the Fairchild narrative and became inconsistent. Faith's first murdered body was supposedly in the belfry. No longer true. Along with other 'no longer truisms'. But the worst is Faith and her husband have become 2 dimensional, predictable and the plots formulaic. The Fairchild marriage has devolved. The trust and communication that should have grown is now less. They don't communicate, there is no trust shown on either side. The marriage was better in the first few books. Faith, with an apparent death wish, continues to run off into danger, never telling her husband anything, and unfortunately gets rescued every time. BORING. She needs to die and let Pix take over.Faith is so very condescending to Pix. Very annoying. Pix has more common sense in her little finger than Faith has overall. Yet Faith continues to tell Pix, in every book she's in, to not get involved in investigating, 'it's too dangerous for her, she isn't as experienced as Faith, Pix can't handle it' and other patronizing little comments. Pix, drop Faith fast and go out on your own. Wait a minute, same boring author. Never mind.Go ahead, read the books, but don't say you weren't warned. They're okay until you hit Body in the Big Apple.I'd suggest Jane Haddam, Laurie R. King, John Dunning, The Lawrence R. Block Bernie Rhodenbarr series, or even Susan Wittig Albert, if you're looking for a good murder instead.
