The Brilliant World Of Tom Gates (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Think the British equivalent of the Wimpy Kid series. Tom Gates is a bit of a slacker and finds joy in 3 things: annoying his older sister, playing in his band with his friends, and eating wafer cookies. He does these three things instead of paying attention in class and completing assignments, but he comes up with very clever/humorous excuses for his behavior. The book reads like a diary/journal and is full of doodles and distractions. The voice is charmingly British and a glossary defining unfamiliar terms is included following the story. This quick, funny read is highly recommended for grades 4-6. Jade (8) and my review:Hilarious book. Really easy to read, funny doodles, and entertaining. Jade loves to read. But she has problem relating to mischievous character and understanding English book (her main language is Norwegian and Chinese). So it is a bit tricky finding her English books that she enjoys. But this book, she devoured and finished it in 2 days :))Altogether a great book for children whose English is a bit shaky :))
