You want to know my pet peeve in books/movies? Bad plot devices and one of the worst offenders is making the main character unreasonable and a little obnoxious in order for them to not take good advice and thereby save the day in their own way. There is a workaround for this problem people! It would just take a little more ingenuity on the author's part. It's such a shame that this episode in the trilogy suffers so badly from this plot device/character development as the rest of the story is totally intriguing and a great adventure/suspense novel. I will still read the last one in the series to see how it all pans out but at the moment it's looking like a bit of a chore. there is a spoiler, just fyi :0i LOVED this book, plain and simple. The first book was also amazing. a friend of mine read and recommended this book to me two years ago, so i did the same, enjoying every minute. then, we both realized there was a second one to come out....7 months in the future. he stuck it out and devoured this book as soon as it hit the shelves. two years and 150 books later, i pick it up. there is no disappointment here. i fell in love with Rutkoski's works all over again! there are times when my head and my heart both know the better choice, but i just cant help myself. example a--Kit is a betraying, spying, lying boy...but i love him anyway. yeah, i didn't like what he did, but i didn't quite get the gravity if the situation with the murders--to me, Cotton and whatever the other guy's name was, they just seemed like the cardboard 2D images of people that you see in malls...there but not living and breathing characters (how funny...both were dead), thus their deaths didn't bother me in the least. besides, i am determined to like Kit. (I've always wanted to be able to use a sword... and swordsmen are stereotypically cute in my eyes) i bout cried when Dee said Kit was to be executed, but yelled 'YESSS!!!' when Petra gave him the key. he's a bad boy, but i like. :)oh, and another thing. i realized 'hey theres a third book.' but wouldn't you know it. the library doesn't have it. *sigh* I'm sad now.....i want the last one!!!!!
What do You think about The Celestial Globe (2009)?
It will be interesting to see how many of the characters reappear in the third book!
