What a lovely story, especially when you read it during this holiday season. Betty, a widow, is feeling lonely and not in the Christmas spirit. Part of it is due to her new, unfriendly neighbor Jack. Then, two things enter her life - a mongrel dog and her adopted run-away granddaughter. It is great story about not pre-judging people, about love & forgiveness and about the power of an animal's influence.Just a great, short read. Didn't like this book at all. The main character Betty, I couldn't warm up to her. She was to mean and wouldn't take the time, to listen to the other characters point of views, it was her way or no way. The little dog in the book, was treated terrible. For someone who is a Christian, and treats animals the way Betty did, I have no respect for them. I couldn't make myself read anymore, so I skipped to the last two chapters to see what the ending was like. Wasn't impressed at all with those two chapters either. I am glad I gave up on reading this.
