The City Center (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

The good: Interesting premise and certainly a reflection of the information overload slash obsession Generation Now is being spoon fed.The downside: A mishmash of everything that has come before: this story gives us shades of Metropolis, 1984, Soylent Green, Logan's Run (still one of my favourite tales of all time), Gattaca, Wall-E, The Island, The Hunger Games, The Terminator (Lillian vs Sarah Connor).Simplistic writing and shallow character development. As another reader rightly observed, it could have done with more detail overall, with regard to description of the environment as well as character motivation.Verdict: Apart from the obvious it was an easy, enjoyable read and a good "entry level" YA sci fi book. Would I read the sequel? Definitely! "Elites" attempt to manage society to perpetuate their control of humanity, the environment, and the economy. Fairly classic "stand up against big brother" novel. Reminded me of "Hunger Games" but with a twist (one of the "successors" has a conscience and awareness instead of a "normal" person) but not as compelling. Sold as Christian but barely had any Christian elements and a small amount of foul language.
