I loved the first in the series and so I was looking forward to the Cup and the Crown. Despite some glorious adventure scenes I really couldn't get into the story and I wasn't able to suspend my disbelief (a little voice in the back of my head kept asking 'really?'). Part of my disappointment could be that The Silver Bowl also included hints at a romance, but that romance remained unfulfilled in this book and unlikely to proceed in the future. The story also included several side characters who seemed unneeded and could have been easily left out -- they did not have any sort of role to play and that plus some unneeded plots unnecessarily complicated the storyline.Despite all that there was enough to keep me interested and I enjoyed seeing Molly come into her own. I will certainly read the third book in the series. This was not only a great sequel to The Silver Bowl, but even better than it! Molly and Tobais head off on an adventure to find one of her grandfather's Loving Cups for the new King Alaric, and find much more than they bargained for. A great story, filled with magic, intrigue, and discovering one's own history and powers. Truly hoping there is at least one more book to finish out the story! Recommended to fantasy lovers, but please read The Silver Bowl first.ARC provided by publisher.
