Exceptionally well hidden life lessons written by a cat - a clever way to convince me to rip through a book about buddhism, mantra's, darma and hairballs. It's still lightweight and easy to read and doesn't get too much into the spiritual details which will put some people off. The pacing is nice too, and the cat has some funny tales to tell about her own life while she tries to meditate and "be happy" in general. This may not be a book for you if you're not open for those kinds of life lessons or if you already know a lot about for instance the Dalai Lama. But I liked it a lot. The Dalai Lama's Cat by David Michie An insightful journey into the mind of Dalai Lama's very wise and furry, feline friend. The cat most widely known as Rinpoche, though she had many other names, fills us in on what it was like to be rescued by one of the greatest minds of our century. After being wrapped in a newspaper ready to be thrown, as she was the runt off the litter and was not able to be sold for a valid price, the Dalai Lama saw the scrawny little kitten and sent one of his attendants to pay the young boys who were selling the kittens, He brought home a week and fragile Rinpoche. She accompanies the Dalai Lama for the rest of her life, and takes you into his busy, yet glamorous life.The theme of the book hinted greatly towards how cats have a great vantage point into human souls, in fact almost all pets do, as they are life long companions who know us better than anyone else. She is able to explain the fragility and beauty in everyday events, and find meaning in the smallest of things. The narrative point of view in the book is the view, of course, of the cat. The author David Michael makes great use of personification in order to have the cat narrate as its almost human. The cat is shown as wise, understanding and observing. Those are qualities that even most humans seem to lack! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to read a funny and light yet deep and thought provoking book. Its suitable for anyone ages ten and up, as it is a timeless book for anyone looking to tap into their inner spirituality.
